Here's a discussion on Digital Point about how the use of HitTail can keep you from being overly susceptible to fluctuations in Google and falling out of Google results.

I actually have seen a 40% increase in traffic from Google...I think it is due to my adapting to the longtail of search through HitTail so I do not have as many major keywords to worry about, instead I have over 300 niche keywords, so if one loses rankings, everything does not come crashing down on me
